Hippos

Land and Seascapes – Kleinmond

I enjoy taking walks in nature and exploring different scenery. I find the South African landscape so diverse.

I thought I would share a few photos of the Kleinmond area in the Western Cape. These were taken very close to the Wild Horses of Botriviervlei.

 





 





Sunset

This is one of my favorite images from 2010. Conditions seemed good for a stunning sunset. I grabbed my camera and rushed around for a good spot. Needless to say I couldn’t find anything interesting. Then I drove past a field close to my home and I decided that I will have to settle for a grassy foreground. I was so happy when I saw this photo on the back of my camera!

African Penguin

The African Penguin grows to 68–70 cm tall and weigh between 2 and 5 kg. Their black markings on the chest is unique to each penguin, like our fingerprints. They have pink glands above their eyes. The hotter the penguin gets, the more blood is sent to these glands so it may be cooled by the surrounding air, thus making the glands more pink. The males are larger than the females and have larger beaks. Because of their donkey-like braying call they were previously named the Jackass Penguin.

On a recent trip to the Western Cape I stopped by Betty’s Bay to see one of the colonies living there.
